Diplomatic Protocol Counsel

Precedent, process, and presence — mapped against the context of the sovereign host.

Why protocol is not etiquette

Etiquette concerns correctness in private. Protocol concerns correctness under witness — and under witness, every departure from precedent becomes a signal. Our role is to read that signal accurately and write the one you wish to transmit.

A sovereign host inherits the precedent of the room. The counsel we provide ensures the guest inherits the precedent of the welcome, not the precedent of the mistake.

What the counsel covers

  1. 01
Precedent research the host’s published protocol record over the last 25 years, with divergence analysis.
  2. 02
Order of precedence complete mapping of principals, spouses, delegations, credentialed press.
  3. 03
Decoration, dress, and gift protocol aligned with both host and guest traditions, disagreements flagged.
  4. 04
Linguistic protocol forms of address, opening and closing formulations, interpreter placement.

How we work

Counsel is delivered in person where the matter warrants it and through a signed document in every case. The document is the deliverable. The document is the defence.

The engagement is strictly confidential. Nothing leaves the room unless the client’s office releases it.
